Good news for business travelers!
China has just announced an expansion of its visa-free entry policy, effective June 9, 2025. Notably, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain are now included in a one-year trial visa-free scheme. Ordinary passport holders from these four Gulf countries can enter mainland China visa-free for up to 30 days for business, tourism, family visits, and transit. This complements an earlier policy (effective June 1, 2025), which adds five Latin American nations (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay) to the 30-day visa exemption. These updates make travel easier for many overseas partners – especially those from the Middle East – to visit China for business or site inspections. China’s unilateral visa-free access now covers a wide range of countries. Nationals of the following countries may enter China without a visa (up to 30 days’ stay) for tourism, business, family visits, exchange or transit:
Europe (32 countries): Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland
Oceania (2 countries): Australia, New Zealand
Asia (4 countries): Brunei, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea
Latin America (5 countries): Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay
Middle East (Gulf states – 4 countries): Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia
These visa waivers (generally valid for 30 days) significantly lower the barriers for international trade and collaboration. For example, engineering firms and wholesalers from the Gulf region can now plan easier visits to Chinese factories and exhibitions.
